On the weekend we went to IMATS (International Makeup Artists Trade Show) in Sydney. Here is Alana outside the Convention centre:
There were a lot of different stalls set up with products on display for demonstration and purchase. Also stalls for various makeup and special effects schools that were mostly Sydney based. I now know of three workshops in Sydney, two workshops in New Zealand, one in the UK and three workshops in LA. But none in Melbourne as yet. There were also a wide range of prosthetics - creatures on display in the 'museum' section of the conference:
We also went to eight seminars over the two days and learned a hell of a lot while we were there. Also gave us some perspective of where we are at as beginners, as well as the potential levels that this kind of work can be taken.
A highlight of the conference for me was meeting Neill Gorton whose credits include Dr Who, Saving Private Ryan and Little Britain. He came across as a down to earth and friendly bloke. I also met Tami Lane who worked on Lord of the Rings (doing lots of orcs) and the Narnia films (she is working on Voyage of the Dawn Trader at the moment on the Gold Coast). Here is shot of me with Neill:
All up a really interesting weekend. Now it's time to get busy learning more advanced techniques, particularly working with silicone moulds and prosthetics for creatures, as well as practicing my sculpture-creature design.
